Course Overview

Communication is fundamental to children's development; children need to be able to understand and be understood if they are to navigate life successfully. Whilst this has long been recognised by governments past and present, one of the key reasons for revising the EYFS was to place a greater emphasis on the development of early language.

In this course, we will explore what we know about communication and language by:

·       Looking specifically at what we mean by speech, language and communication, and what it involves.

·       Reviewing the building blocks that make up communication and language development.

·       Considering the role of the adult in supporting each child's development.

·       Exploring the important role that environments play in the development of children's language.
